Permanent Modular Office Building for MD SHA Weigh Station in Conowingo

The Challenge

The Maryland State Highway Administration needed to replace an aging modular building at its Conowingo site, the second stop in a four-location statewide replacement contract. The Conowingo site presented a logistical challenge the other locations did not: removal of the existing unit required a crane, and the replacement building had to work within a foundation wall that needed modification from 70 feet to 60 feet to properly accommodate the new structure.

The Solution

Modular Genius removed the existing unit at the Conowingo site by crane and installed a new 14×60 modular building in its place. The existing foundation wall was modified from 70 feet to 60 feet to fit the new unit, with the building set on ABS pads and block. Interior finishes matched the standard established across the series: VCT flooring, central HVAC, and a full restroom. Electric and plumbing were cut and reconnected. The completed building gave the Conowingo site a fully functional, code-compliant replacement, delivered despite the added complexity of crane removal and foundation modification.
