The Challenge

Norfolk Southern required a dedicated scale house to support logistics and truck operations at one of their rail yard sites. The facility needed to accommodate administrative functions and be positioned adjacent to scale equipment installed by the site general contractor. The client needed a durable, pre-finished structure delivered ready for occupancy

The Solution

Modular Genius provided a 480 sq. ft. new modular scale house, delivered directly to the Norfolk Southern site. The unit was blocked, leveled, secured with tie-downs, and fitted with skirting. The interior was designed for operational efficiency, featuring built-in workstations with durable countertops, a break area with cabinetry, microwave shelf, stainless steel refrigerator, and sink. The floor plan also includes a private restroom and ADA-accessible entry ramps for full code compliance. Built with 2×6 exterior walls, the structure includes a 3-ton HVAC system with 10 kW electric heat and fresh air intake to ensure comfort year-round. The modular solution enabled rapid deployment with minimal on-site construction, aligning with the project’s operational timeline.
