Modified Intermodal Containers

The Challenge

The U.S. Navy was in need of stackable, modified, Intermodal, Containers to be used as temporary production facilities. These container facilities are used during maintenance of shipping vessels coming back into port for service. The non-combustible container style offices are installed on the pier, on top of the shipping vessel’s flight deck and inside the hanger bay. The units needed to be built to meet the International Building Code 2012, ADA and Requirements, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) 1-200-01, 3-301-01, 3-600-01, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1, Fire Code, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70, National Electrical Code (NEC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101, Life Safety Code. Prefabricated stairs and platforms needed to be constructed to meet the requirements of Uniform Federal Accessibility, ADA, and OSHA standards.

The Solution

Modular Genius provided multiple configurations of containers fully equipped with Fire Alarm Systems, fire suppression system, Exterior wiring to include a cam-lock connection box feeding a 600-volt, 40-amp, double-pole circuit breaker enclosed in a NEMA-3R circuit breaker enclosure. A Transformer frame was bonded to unit frame using appropriate size bonding jumper. A LAN drop consisting of two (2) each Green and two (2) each Blue CAT5e cables were installed throughout to meet EIA/TIA 568B standards for installation, labeling, and testing/verification. Doors were secured with FF-2740B locking mechanisms for OSC, OSS, CNIA, and NWA along with UL-437 locking mechanism for an SI S&G 1881 slide hasp. Thirty four units were fabricated, delivered and installed in 180 from award.
