Modular Public Library

Cameron, WV

The Challenge

The City of Cameron, WV needed a new public library to replace their existing non-ADA compliant library that was housed on the 2nd floor of a commercial building located downtown. The new site for the library was next to the elementary school and site disruption was a concern due to the school bus travel on the street of the new location. The site had no area for material storage or construction equipment for a stick-built building. Additionally, The City had limited staff to work with an Architect, develop a bid package, publicly advertise the project, and select a bidder. Modular Genius recommended the library join the Keystone Purchasing Network, which allowed them work directly with Modular Genius on the design of the building and project scope. By utilizing the KPN, The City of Cameron saved time and money on this important project.

The Solution

A 2,220 sqft building was designed for easy access to the library and provide space to employ educational programs for the elementary school and the community. The modular was installed on a permanent stem wall foundation using a crane on the narrow lot. The exterior finishes included a site-built mansard, HardiPlank siding, custom windows, and stone panel around the foundation. Interior finishes included Corlon heat welded flooring and commercial carpet designed for high traffic areas. Painted gypsum walls and an acoustic ceiling with LED lighting offer a bright space for visitors. A split HVAC system placed in the ceiling eliminated a need for a mechanical closet. The installation took approximately 4 weeks and the client stated “Our new library will now be able to serve all of our community and we are happy we decided to reach out to Modular Genius, who made a complicated decision, very easy.”
