Modular Workforce Housing

Temporary workforce housing, also called “man camps,” has been around for hundreds of years, providing accommodations to everyone from 19th-century railroad workers and gold miners to modern-day construction laborers. It’s not easy for workers to commute to and from their homes to a work site in a remote area, so temporary housing is the best solution.

Modular Genius’ modular bunk houses are ideal for firefighting, construction, and oilfield/mining crews. Kitchens, dining facilities, showers, and sleeping quarters can be incorporated, and the building(s) can be installed in just a few weeks at a prepared site. They come skid-mounted or with wheels and axles and can house anywhere from 20 to 1,000 workers. Delivery and installation are available to remote locations.

Modular Genius’ modular barracks and dormitories can be used for a wide range of purposes; student housing, employee housing, retreat centers, barracks for military, man camps, and more. They can include living/sleeping accommodations, commercial kitchens, dining halls, game rooms, theaters, weight rooms, restrooms/showers, offices, meeting rooms, and laundry facilities, and are a smart, fast way to expand.

In military settings, our modular sleeping quarters can overcome long, drawn-out, site-built construction projects when you need living space to accommodate base realignments or rapid troop expansions.

Our modular solutions are designed to resist wind, snow, and internal explosion loads and meet increasingly strict code requirements for fire resistance, secondary containment, and structural strength. With all-weather construction and many options to choose from, they are the perfect way to give your staff a comfortable and protected area to sleep, eat, and work.

Our modular buildings can be configured with innovative technologies to increase comfort, such as:

  • HVAC and ventilation systems
  • Lighting systems
  • Communication systems
  • Hard-wall systems and partitions
  • Skylights that utilize natural lighting during the day and reduce overall energy usage
  • Insulation systems that improve energy efficiency while providing a comfortable living and working space

Case Studies

Modular Genius built temporary housing for the U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC, two-story sleeping quarters for Donley Fire House, and duplex dormitories for a Pennsylvania college, illustrating the usefulness of modular dormitories and barracks as a quick way to overcome overcrowding.
